I make medium scale vibrant abstract paintings that document the paradoxical interaction between emergence theory and visual entropy. Starting with a random and complex underpainting, I attempt to simplify the piece by adding additional complexity. Ordinarily, additional complexity would lead to chaos, but, carefully weaving relationships of shape and color, there is an emergent stasis that can occur where the work just rests as a whole. It is my hope to offer the viewer the balanced experience of the simplified overall piece while simultaneously inviting the perception of the dynamic and complex relationships from which the whole emerges.
